Postdoctoral Awards for Research Excellence
The Office of Postdoctoral Services and the Duke University Postdoctoral Association are pleased to announce the 2008 Postdoctoral Awards for Research Excellence.
The awards are designed to support postdocs with professional development needs such as conference travel, books, lab materials, workshop attendance, or other activities that directly enhance the individual's professional growth. The awards are open to full-time postdocs in all disciplines. Each recipient will receive an award of up to $1000.
The application deadline date is Monday, April 14, 2008 at 5 pm. Awards will be announced on May 9, 2008.
Guidelines:
1. Applicants must be in the category of Postdoctoral Associate (Job Code 3820), or Postdoctoral Scholar/Fellow. Applications will not be accepted from other employment designations such as Visiting Scholar, Research Associate Senior, Visiting Assistant Professor, etc.
2. Awards cannot be used for computers or other personal electronic devices.
3. The award funds must be expended while the applicant is still a postdoc at Duke.
4. Funds must be expended between May 12, 2008 and April 30, 2009.
5. Funds will be reimbursed once the entire sum has been expended. All receipts, records, and similar financial documentation relating to award expenditures must be presented to the Office of Postdoctoral Services.
6. Awards will not be made retroactively, such as for travel completed prior to date of application.
Applications must consist of:
1. A one-page cover letter describing in detail how these funds will help your professional development. Since the Awards Committee is comprised of scholars from various fields, this narrative should be written for a non-expert audience.
2. A one-paragraph outline of how the budget will be spent.
3. A current curriculum vita.
The application must be in PDF format, and sent to molly.starback@duke.edu by 5:00 pm on Monday, April 14, 2008. Materials received after that time will not be considered by the Committee.
