Department Name:Ophthalmology, Biomedical Engineering
Position:Imaging ocular disease and image processing of spectral/Fourier domain optical coherence tomography
Description:The post-doctoral scientist will gain valuable experience in the application of modern image processing and computer-aided decision (CAD) techniques in an exciting new medical imaging modality, spectral/Fourier domain optical coherence tomography (SDOCT).
The scientist will work in a unique multidisciplinary environment involving close collaboration of leading clinician-scientists and engineers, and will thus gain exposure to cutting-edge methods and technologies in clinical ophthalmology, genetic medicine and phenotyping, as well as coherent signal and image processing. Following successful completion of this research project, the scientist will be well suited for faculty or research
positions in biomedical engineering, biophysics, and ophthalmology. The faculty mentors, Cynthia Toth, M.D. and Joseph Izatt, PhD, have very successful track records in placement of trainees in faculty positions in the US and internationally.

Position:Postdoctoral Opportunity in Behavioral and Molecular Neuroscience of Drosophila
Description:The Tracey Laboratory at Duke University Medical Center seeks a postdoctoral scientist. Our laboratory has developed novel forward genetic screens to isolate pain signaling genes from Drosophila. Candidates with strong publication record will be given first priority. Many projects are available; identification of novel molecules of nociception, understanding neuronal circuitry involved in nociception, and in vivo imaging of neurons with high-speed confocal microscopy. The exact project will be tailored according to the interests and prior experience of the candidate. Duke University Medical Center provides an outstanding learning environment for postdoctoral training. Dr. Tracey is a member of the Departments of Anesthesia, Cell Biology, and Neurobiology. Department Name:Division of Pediatric Allergy and Immunology
Position:Immunology and Molecular Biology
Description:The research laboratory of Dr. Louise Markert, Division of Allergy and Immunology, has an immediate opening for a PhD with experience and training in immunology and molecular biology. The laboratory studies the immune reconstitution after thymus transplantation of infants with complete DiGeorge syndrome. These infants are born athymic and severely inmmune deficient. Thymus transplntation is conducted under an Investigational New Drug application with the Food and Drug Adminisration (FDA). Over 40 patients have been transplanted with immune reconstitution in all survivors. Specific research projects inclued the role of host HLA restrittion in presentation of antigens following thymus transplantation and alaysis of moleculary markers that corrrelate with thympoesis. The laboratory is supported by three federally funded grants and is developing thymus transplantation as an approved product by the FDA. This position offers a unique opportunity to conduct basic research and be involved in the product deveopment process.

Department Name:Cell Biology
Position:Postdoctoral Position to Study Microtubule Motor Protein Structure and Function
Description:The Endow Laboratory in the Department of Cell Biology at Duke University Medical Center has an opening for a postdoctoral scientist to study microtubule motor protein structure and function. We use molecular genetics, cell biology and biophysical methods to analyze the mechanism of motor function in vitro and in live cells. Specific projects are designed to determine the molecular basis of motor function, including stepping, processivity and directionality, and the way motors work in cells to modulate microtubule dynamics and assemble spindles in oocytes and early embryos.
